Ethical aspects of citizen photojournalism with a focus on photograpic and audiovisual regords from late twenties until present

The bachelor thesis Ethical aspects of citizen photojournalism with a focus on photographic and audiovisual record from late twenties until present follows up the phenomenon of citizen journalism, which recorded especially in the last decade a sharp rise thanks to the development of information and communication technologies and looks at it from an ethical perspective. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part deals with theoretical notions of ethics and citizen journalism, including the ethical principles of journalism and code of ethics. It also examines the pro and con arguments and another form of citizen journalism, participatory journalism. The second part is devoted to new media from history to present and social networks (Facebook, Twitter etc.), which are closely linked to the development of citizen journalism. The last part has the form of practical examples focusing on photographic and audiovisual records. Sport journalists as press secretaries of sportsmen or sport clubs-ethical issue

Diploma thesis "Sport journalists as press secretaries of sportsmen or sport clubs - ethical issue" deals with the problem of sport journalists who work for sportsmen, sport clubs or associations at the same time, often as press secretaries, authors of articles on their websites or press conference organizers and presenters. This could be considered as a conflict of interest and can affect his/her work for media, for example agenda setting or content of the stories. This thesis focuses on two main problems: how Czech codes of ethics deal with conflict of interest and how editors-in-chief of sport columns think about conflict of interest. The last part of this thesis is a case study of selected sport journalist who is in conflict of interest.

Ethics of the Communist Era Journalist - Czechoslovakia after 1970

If there is a general precondition for "good" journalism in contemporary journalistic studies, it would be for the political environment to be a pluralist democracy. However, media and journalists were operating in non-democratic Czechoslovakia before the Velvet Revolution as well. This thesis explores the presence of "journalism ethics" in journalistic circles in 1967-1977. The most important one of such circles was the Czechoslovakian Union of Journalists, a voluntary- based social organization which united thousands of press, TV, radio and agency journalists. Based on heuristic research in the Union's archives, this thesis primarily describes two separate stages of formulation of the journalism ethics' principles that were done by the Union's committees. Their way of thinking about these principles is put into context of Marxism-Leninism with emphasis on the Czechoslovakian interpretation of Marxist-Leninist media theories. The Czechoslovakian regime's systemic control of media proved to be an affiliated topic to the one of journalism ethics, and from the described process we are also able to draw some conclusions considering the seeming autonomy and the degree of professionalism of the communist era journalists.

Transformation of media ethics with the rise of citizen journalism

Master's thesis transformation of media ethics with the rise of citizen journalism presents the phenomenon of citizen journalism (which thanks to the development of information and communication technologies has marked a steep increase) and how it changed the ethics of traditional media while reporting about terrorist attacks. The theoretical part is divided into four chapters. The first chapter defines the concept of ethics with a focus on ethical principles in journalism. The second chapter defines the concept of media, puts emphasis on mass media and new media and their placement into the current media environment. The third chapter deals with the concept of citizen journalism and participatory journalism. It clarifies their definition, explains the differences between them, outlines their advantages and disadvantages and compares them with traditional media. The last chapter of the practical part deals with the term terrorism. This chapter defines terrorism, deals with its division and development stages and outlines its goals. The practical part examines, through a case study how traditional media behaves in relation to citizen journalism when referring to terrorist attacks and how they adhere or violate ethical standards when taking materials from amateur journalists. Photography as a part of complex communicate in the news of czech dailies

My diploma thesis deals with respecting the journalism ethics by two most read general- interest newspapers in the Czech Republic - Mlada fronta DNES and Hospodarske noviny, when using complex communicate including a news photo. My research sample contained just breaking news (home and world) published nationwide in March, 2014. A relationship between meanings of particular parts in complex communicates (the headline, the caption, the photo and the article) and has been my variable that I was searching for within the sample. As all the parts work together in building one sense, which should represent a reality, I suppose, that meanings of these parts should show a relationship of harmony and substitution within one complex communicate. I used semiotic analysis to analyse meanings within a communicate, both denotation and connotation level. I applied my knowledge of social and visual semiotics, semantics and pragmatics to explain the meanings of individual signs. At the end of my research I compared results of my analysis to outcomes of Magda Polmanova's research - a former Charles University student that dealt with almost the same topic as me in her bachelor thesis, analysing the same dailies however from 2011. Blending of political and media power: The case of Radek John and his programme Bez cenzury

This thesis considers the role of former politician and journalist Radek John in an investigative programme Bez cenzury on TV Barrandov. Even though John was a politician and leader of Czech political party Věci veřejné, he decided to return to journalism. He did so with no intention of resigning his chair in the Chamber of Deputies, part of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. With this in mind, this could be considered as a specific representation of political parallelism. This study describes specific cases where Radek John might have acted contrary to normative journalistic values and journalism ethics. Furthermore, the thesis analyses the possibility that Radek John's own political interests and opinions affected the television programme itself. The research is conducted using the method of a case study which combines qualitative and quantitative content analysis, qualitative interviews and other research methods. Consequently, the analysis found signs of biased reporting in the programme's introduction and some stories, which reflected Radek John's antipathy towards traditional political parties and their leaders. Satirical Image of Journalist in World Movie as a Reflection of Journalism

Bachelor paper Satirical Image of Journalist in World Movie as a Reflection of Journalism aims mainly to show how journalistic profession is depicted and criticised in satirical movies about journalism by analysing some of those movies. The first part of the paper generally summarizes history of journalism in film and talks about journalism film as a genre and about ambivalent cultural perception of journalists. Second part of the paper is about particular satirical movies. To expose this specific approach to journalism film, five movies were selected. These movies are analysed in detail. The paper briefly summarizes plots of these movies and links them to real people, events and other related phenomena. Furthermore, the paper analyses particular characters of journalists from selected (and related) movies, and compares these characters with common movie journalist stereotypes (as they were described by Brian McNair). Means of satire, used in selected movies, are also analysed, as are objects of satire. The paper also briefly describes reception of selected films (critical reception, financial outcome and reactions of offended personalities).
